The movement that made women’s right to vote legal in the Progressive Era were times when women earned their right to vote. World War I took place of the dates 1914-1918.Which gave women a new way of going to work in the industry. Here we learn about the women’s movement. “Large numbers of women were recruited into jobs vacated by men who had gone to fight in the war.”(striking-women.org/ ) The start of World War I lead to the 19th Amendment being signed by President Woodrow and granted women the right to vote.

It was ideal that many women were married at a young age. And their only purpose was to take care of their kids and families. When the war started all the men left, leaving all the work behind. “The women worked as nurses, drove trucks, repaired airplanes, and performed clerical work. Some were killed in combat or captured as prisoners of war.”(khanacademy.org/ ) And over sixteen hundred female nurses received various decorations for courage.

Research has shown Susan B Anthony as a leader for women right’s along side with Elizabeth Cady Stanton. “The effect of World War I cut across class lines, too. Suffragists needed to demonstrate patriotism for their cause to be taken seriously.”(Specht) Women in America who fought in the Suffrage chose the former, scorning the 19th amendment while forming the National Woman Suffrage Association to try and win the passage of a federal universal-suffrage amendment.

The term “Suffrage” means Women’s Right to Vote. It was a term used to describe the movement.( history.com/topics/womens-history ) The fight that made women able to vote 1900’s-2020.Looking at the history of Women’s right to vote. “Passed by Congress June 4, 1919,and ratified on August 18, 1920, the 19thamendment granted women the right to vote.” (www.ourdocuments.gov › doc)

The first feminists in the movement were very diplomatic in their debate for equal right’s. “The socialites also shared in the hardships of the movement, taking the abuse, tolerating slurs, and even getting arrested.”(Specht) They fought for women to have equal pay because in those times women were not allowed to make much money. Because as soon as the men returned back from the war. Their jobs were taken away from them and making women go back to being housewives.

During The Progressive Period more freedom and right’s were granted to all American’s. It not only benefited women’s rights but to all citizens of the United States. It gave blacks more freedom right’s as well. Many of them went to college, and got an education for better jobs. When we hear the word “war” we think of all the soldiers risking their lives for the freedom of American citizens. What this country went through in history brought the younger generations more rights, and freedom. And we often take our freedom for granted. We should appreciate what our ancestors fought for.

Women are considered equal citizens by allowing women the right to vote. America was changed into how the country should run. It is also a woman’s right to vote for the President of the United States, and are considered an equal vote. Should more women run for political offices? Do we need more women politicians? Will America ever have a woman president?
